"We want to build an Ocean Racing Team that is able to win the Volvo Ocean Race and that our sponsors can be proud of in all aspects."
Weert Jacobsen-Kramer

The GERMAN OCEAN RACING TEAM is the German managed campaign for the 14th edition of THE OCEAN RACE, formerly known as the Volvo Ocean Race and the Whitbread Round the World Race.  THE OCEAN RACE is the most important fully crewed offshore sailing event in the world and a unique human adventure. It connects all continents and economic regions in a fascinating competition and represents a global business platform that offers its stakeholders unequalled business and marketing opportunities. The next edition of THE OCEAN RACE will start from Alicante, Spain in the autumn of 2021.

The OCEAN Race

"There is nothing like it. It gets in your blood and you can't get rid of it."
Sir Peter Blake

Since 1973, THE OCEAN RACE has provided the ultimate test of a team and a human adventure like no other. Over four decades it has kept an almost mythical hold over some of the greatest sailors and been the proving ground for the legends of our sport. The Ocean Race is often described as the longest and toughest professional sporting event in the world, sailing’s toughest team challenge and one of the sport’s Big Three events, alongside the Olympic Games and America’s Cup.

Since the first race, the boats have become faster, the crews are professional sailors at the top of their game, and the technology is state of the art. However the sea never changes and the race around the world will ever be a human challenge and a battle against and with the elements.

Sustainability

The Ocean is our Race track

THE OCEAN RACE has launched a major Sustainability Programme for the 2017-18 edition and beyond, while outlining a series of commitments that focus on ocean health. The race is putting sustainability at its heart and focusing on taking action on ocean health and climate change, highlighted by the United Nations Environment’s Clean Seas campaign that has been adopted by the last edition of the race. The Sustainability Programme of the race is a true success story awarded with the Ocean Tribute Award and the Beyond Sports Award 2018.

Your story

"This is an incredible race, one of the last true human adventures visiting every single continent in the world, crossing all the oceans."
Knut Frostad

The Onboard Reporter is a unique innovation from THE OCEAN RACE. No other sport has a dedicated multimedia journalist embedded in the team of athletes, right in the middle of the action. One of the world’s toughest media jobs. They are striving constantly to tell their stories and are the link between life onboard and on shore. Their duties include shooting video and stills photographs, writing, editing and transmitting content to Race Control, setting up live video calls while racing and making breath taking video shots with drones and 360-degree cameras from the most far reaches points of the globe.
